Gonzales' sister Jessica, and other family members, said that the two were in an abusive relationship, and that Whitney had turned her husband into a punching bag on several occasions in the past, leaving him with a black eye.

'He's our baby brother and she's supposed to be his wife. How could she do this?' Jessica Gonzales asked in tears

Pete's family believe Whitney ran over Pete on purpose, and are upset that she hasn't yet been arrested.

Even more damning is the fact that Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers said they smelt alcohol on Whitney when she reported the incident early Sunday morning.

The Police  said they would not say whether Whitney took a sobriety test, but blood samples were drawn which will show for any substances in her system. However, results from those tests won't be back for several weeks.
